Furman's Patriotic Lakeside Concert

Oh, I just LOVE this picture of our family! (Evidence that it was Papa who took the photos when I was young!) Today we went to Furman for what would be the first Lakeside Concert of the year: a patriotic celebration at the new ampitheater! First Papa stopped with the girls to gander at the swans by the lake and the belltower (and directly in front of where I used to live as a senior there!). Then it was off to the concert. The whole thing was incredibly moving, but the most moving moment was the "Salute to the Armed Forces" when Papa stood as a former member of the Navy and Leia held up her picture of "army guys" as her own personal salute. I always get teary-eyed during the salute when all of our cherished veterans stand. Today was no exception. Then Leia Rose "played" the piccolo as the 1812 overture sounded its huge cannons. And it ended with a roll down the hill.

AWESOME!!!!

At Chautauqua, the orchestra played the theme song of each branch of the armed forces. Those who had served in that branch stood during the playing of their song. Very moving!!
