I was glued to the TV, even at work, when the conclave to elect the next Pope began. There is a lot of talk about Cardinal Tagle, probably the most liberal of them all, and then there is talk about Cardinal Burke, which would be a conservative choice of disastrous proportions. Rest assured that there is intense prayer going on on both sides. My prayer is that the person chosen will continue the legacy of Pope Francis.
And of course, the result of the first vote was black smoke meaning no Pope. What amazed me, especially considering our secular culture, was the amount of news coverage 24/7 on this conclave in selection of the next Pope. It kind of makes me think that people in the world simply want to live the way they want to live, but they still are glad that this religion exists and are interested in it to some extent and even have a belief in God to some extent. I remember stories from godless people that I know at September 11th walking into random catholic churches just to pray and feel safe. There is hope for our society yet.
