Nutcracker Auditions & Acceptance

Today we broke out the Nutcracker books and CDs because, and I just couldn't believe it, BOTH girls were able to audition for the big Christmas Nutcracker production sponsored by the Asheville Ballet! Here they are with their official numbers on their backs. They were the 30th and 31st children today (which was the second day of auditioning). Supposedly, the first day of auditioning was swamped with hundreds of kids! Now we're waiting for callbacks! Today were were joking all day with things like, "Maybeeeeee Annie will be a bon-bon and Leia Rose will be a snowflake. . . . Maybeeeee Annie will be a candy cane and Leia will be a flower."

They were taken into the audition area with the other participants and, at one point, I saw Annie tippitoeing with her arms raised and together, just like in real ballet! She was taking direction very well! As for Leia Rose, of course, she did incredibly well (this being her third year of ballet). I was very proud of her for asking her auditioner about possibly playing the part of Clara. ; ) She was told that she had to be a little bit older for that one. : ) But, hey, she asked! : ) At this point, she's hoping to be one of the flowers in "The Dance of Flowers." We should find out next week.
And it wasn't long before I found out that I was a proud Mamma of a Candy Cane (Leia Rose) and a Gummy Bear (Annie) in this year's production! : )

So, in honor of this acceptance, Leia Rose drew her very favorite scene from the Nutcracker: the Russian dancers performing in the Land of Sweets for Clara and the Nutcracker Prince.

Oh, I hope and pray that one of them makes it. But the one would HAVE to be Leia. Can you imagine if Annie made it and not Leia??!!! I don't want to even go there...
