"Ol' man river
That ol' man river
he must know something
But he don't say nothing
Cause he just keeps rolling
He keeps rolling along ...
I gets weary
Yes I' am sick of trying
I'm tired of living and
Scared of dying
But ol' man river
He keeps rolling along" (From "Old Man River")
And ...
"If you come down to the river
I bet you gonna find some people who live
And you don't have to worry if you got no money
People on the river are happy to give
Big wheel keep on turning
Proud Mary keep on burning
And we're rolling, tell you rolling, we're rolling on the river" (From "Proud Mary")
I don't have too many pictures Of the Mississippi river, but this was one of my favorite parts of the trip. There is just such a deep sense of history and a bit of sadness watching such a large river roll along. The same river that carried so many African Americans deep into slavery. It was a totally unplanned moment to go and sit by the river. We sat there for a very long time, just thinking about everything that had gone on there in history. When we were about to leave we looked at the to the right and saw that there were many people sitting by the river periodically all the way down.
