Life and Science Museum

Here is Leia Rose just before she left for the Life and Science Museum in Durham today. She really wanted to try wearing a headband. Here is the beautiful result! : )

Grandma gave Leia Rose and Daddy such a special day today! (You see, Mamma still needs to stay home with an Annie who's still napping & nursing.) I told them to take the camera and get some great shots! Look at this wonderful shot Daddy composed in the butterfly pavilion!

And guess what the feature of the museum is these days: dinosaurs!!! Here she is near styracosaurus. They are making these true-to-life dinos (even the correct size) to be put on a cool forest path outside. While they are being built, kids can go right up to them and pick up a phone to hear the info about them! (Karin, you HAVE to take Kevin here!)

Leia Rose was in heaven! I can't tell you how excited she was to hear the real (supposed) sound that this parasauralophus made! : )

There's also a really cool kids area where, among other fantastic things, you can become the center of a real bubble!

There's also a new boardwalk down to a different area. Here are grandma and Leia posing for a shot.

And in the animal exhibits, they were all amazed to see how close this black bear was willing to come! Hey, these days animals will do anything for water! (The deer are even eating my lantana, . . . they're supposed to hate that!)

Here was another one of Leia's favorite activities called "Move Through the Mist." Kids are supposed to observe how the wind effects the mist.

This was one of the many exhibits in the "Blowing in the Wind" theme. Leia Rose's favorite activity was sailing a sailboat by remote control! (Why the heck didn't Daddy take a picture of that?!? I think it was one of those times he was so excited that he forgot. : ) There was also a cool crane that you could control to lift a large (fake) maple seed up in the air to watch it spiral down. (Again, Brian must have been too excited.)

All in all, the day was full of many "thank you's" to Grandma! It was really a day to remember, . . . and something tells me that next time Annie will play a large part as well. : )

Very cool!!!! :) I had forgotten all about the upcoming dinosaurs!!! We saw the "gates" announcing it there last fall. I wonder what Kevin would think?? He was very scared of the dinosaur skeleton at the Museum of Natural Science last Christmas!
